Explosion Hook High Carbon Steel (Pack of 4)

Product Details

This explosion hook set holds 4 pieces made from high carbon steel. It is a spring-type bait rig, also called a water mine hook, made for ocean fishing. An explosion hook carries several hooks around a central spring. You press bait or groundbait around the spring, cast it out and let it sit on the bottom, where the bait slowly breaks apart and spreads a scent trail.

Fish follow the trail to the bait ball and start to pick at it. As they feed, the hooks sit inside and around the bait, so a fish that takes a mouthful has a good chance to find a point. The spring holds the bait firmly through the cast and gives it a core to cling to.

Load the spring firmly so the bait does not fly off on the cast, but not so hard that it cannot break up on the bottom. Keep the line tight and strike when it pulls away. High carbon steel keeps the points sharp and the hooks in shape. Check local rules before use, as some waters restrict multi-hook rigs.
