This round jig head is a classic ball head hook for rigging soft lure baits, sold in a lot of 5 pieces. Choose the weight that fits the water you fish: 3, 5, 7, 10 or 15g. The light heads sink slowly and suit shallow banks, docks and calm days, while the heavier heads cast further, cut through wind and reach the bottom quickly in deeper water or current.

A round head is the most versatile jig shape there is. It has no flat side, so it falls straight, swims level on a steady retrieve and hops cleanly off the bottom without rolling onto its side. That makes it a good first choice when you are not sure what the fish want: you can swim it, hop it, drag it or simply let it fall on a slack line and watch for the line to twitch.

Rig a soft grub, shad or minnow-style bait by threading it onto the hook from the nose, so the body sits straight and tight against the head. A straight bait swims true, while a crooked one spins and twists the line. Start with the lightest head that lets you feel the bottom, then go heavier if the wind, current or depth makes it hard to stay in touch. Check the hook point after a snag, and swap in a fresh head from the pack when it gets dull, so every bite has the best chance to hook up.
